| Baguio Solid Waste Management Project | ||||
|
The Government of Japan helps Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation (JVOFI) in improving the solid waste management in Baguio City while also enhancing the income of garbage pickers through the Baguio Solid Waste Management Project. Through the project, JVOFI was able to construct a compost plant, maturation bins and training facility, and procure necessary equipment for processing of solid wastes. Baguio City , the summer capital of the Philippines, has 125 barangays whose wastes accumulate at Irisan dump site. The project aims to reduce the amount of garbage in the city while also providing alternative sources of income for waste pickers through operating the compost plant and marketing its by-products such as soil conditioners and coir fiber. Recyclable materials, meanwhile, are either directly sold to junk shops or re-used as novelty items and then sold during trade fairs. |

With the GGP-funded conveyor, solid wastes like coconut husks are easily transferred for the next steps in processing. |
JVOFI facilitate training activities and awareness on solid waste management using the GGP-funded training facility. |
