On August 25, 2009, Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura attended the turnover ceremony of “The Project for Construction of Classroom Building for Bai Hanina S. Sinsuat National High School ” in Barangay Kusiong, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao.
This project is funded through the Embassy of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with a grant of 8,848,917 Japanese Yen (approximately US$ 7 8 , 309 ). This classroom building project, completed with tables and chairs, directly benefit s about 210 students of the school.
Earlier, 210 students and teachers experienced challenges in learning environment with four makeshift classrooms. When it rained hard, the classrooms became muddy and dirty. During hot seasons, they were exposed to the heat of the sun, which made it difficult for the students to concentrate on classes. Now with a newly constructed building with five classrooms, they can enjoy a more comfortable learning environment.
This project has been implemented under the J-BIRD, or Japan-Bangsamoro Initiatives for Reconstruction and Development. The Government of Japan launched J-BIRD in December 2006 as part of its commitment to support peace and development efforts in Mindanao. J-BIRD has assisted construction and/or rehabilitation of school buildings, training centers, and water supply systems through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects. These projects amount to a total of 238 Million Yen (approximately 2.1 Million USD).
