Minister Hidenobu Sobashima, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of Japan and Judge Antonina Escovilla, President of Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku (MKD or Mindanao International College) inaugurated MKD's Nihongo E-Learning Facility on September 23, 2009 in Davao City.
A recording studio, with various equipment and computer software was inaugurated to commence the MKD's new Nihongo E-Learning Program. The facilities and equipment will be used to enhance the school's e-learning capabilities to make Nihongo learning more accessible, convenient and flexible to students. It was made possible through the US$46,675 grant for MKD signed between Ambassador Makoto Katsura and Judge Escovilla in February this year.
In his remarks during the inauguration ceremony, Minister Sobashima commended MKD for taking advantage of advances in technology to make Nihongo learning more accessible to students with various needs and expressed his hope for the continued close cooperation, cultural exchange and mutual understanding between the Philippines and Japan.
The grant for MKD is funded under the Government of Japan's Grant Aid for Cultural Grass Roots Projects (GACGP). The GACGP was introduced in 2000 as a scheme of Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) to provide assistance to directly benefit the so-called grassroots level in developing economies.
