Japan Platform (JPF) has decided to contribute up to 30 Million Yen (approximately USD333,333) to Japanese NGO's relief and medical missions for the people affected by Tropical Storm Ondoy. JPF, a humanitarian aid organization to help with emergencies outside Japan , comprise Japanese NGOs, and commercial and government institutions. It aims to offer effective and prompt emergency aid for the victims of disasters.
To date, three JPF member-NGOs have dispatched their staff members to various areas affected by the calamity, with the assistance of the Japanese Government. The summary of their activities are as follows:
1. The Japan Asian Association Asian Friendship Society (JAFS)
Mission : provision of relief goods
Period: October 3 to 22
Places covered: Municipality of Angono , Binangonan, and Cardona, Rizal Province
Total amount of the funds provided from the Japanese Government: 5 million yen (approximately USD 55,555)
2. Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Japan
Mission : provision of relief goods
Period: October 3 to November 2
Places covered: Municipality of Biñan , Laguna Province
Total amount of the funds provided from the Japanese Government: 5 million yen (approximately USD 55,555)
3. Humanitarian Medical Assistance (HuMA)
Mission : investigation of sanitary conditions and medical needs
Period: October 4 to 8
Places covered: Metro Manila and Rizal Province
Total amount of the funds provided from the Japanese Government: 1.2 million yen (approximately USD 13,333)
In response to the calamity caused by Tropical Storm Ondoy, the Government of Japan already delivered emergency relief goods equivalent to approximately 20 million yen (approximately 10 million pesos or USD 220,000) to the Philippine Government on September 30.
