ARAW NG KAGITINGAN

 

 

Ambassador Katsura pays tribute with Vice President Noli De Castro and US Charge‘d Affaires Leslie A. Bassett in the rites marking Araw ng Kagitingan.

 

 

Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura participated in the commemoration of the ARAW NG KAGITINGAN on Friday, 9 April 2010. The Ceremony was held at Mt. Samat in Pilar, Bataan with Vice President Noli De Castro as the Guest of Honor. US Charge d' Affaires Leslie A. Bassett, Secretary of National Defense Norberto B. Gonzales, and many war veterans also attended the ceremony.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Katsura expressed his heartfelt apologies and deep sense of remorse over the damage caused by the Japanese military in the Philippines during World War II, including the tragic Bataan Death March.

 

He also reaffirmed Japan's unwavering support for the Philippines's efforts to attain peace and prosperity as a strategic partner, working together with like-minded countries such as the United States.
