Japanese Ambassador Makoto Katsura participated in the 66th Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landings on October 20, 2010. The Ceremony was held at the MacArthur Landing Memorial National Park in Palo, Leyte, organized by Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla. Under Secretary for Civil, Veterans and Reserve affairs, Samueru B. Bagasin and representatives from the Embassies of Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States as well as many veterans also attended the ceremony. In his speech, Ambassador Katsura expressed his heartfelt apologies and deep sense of remorse over the damages caused during World War II and reaffirmed that Japan will continue helping in nation-building efforts of the Philippines, as a strategic parter.
