Emergency Grant Aid to the Republic of the Philippines for Typhoon Disaster

 

 

On Wednesday December 28, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid of 2 million US dollars to the Republic of the Philippines, in response to the emergency appeal issued on December 22 which is bas ed on the damage assessment carried out by the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, following serious damage caused by Tropical Storm Washi (Philippine name: Sendong) centered in the north part of the Mindanao Island.

This emergency assistance aims to provide urgently needed food and water and to support for repairing the damaged houses, through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF)

Prior to this emergency grant aid, the Government of Japan ha d decided to extend emergency relief goods (water tank, generator, etc.) equivalent to approximately 25 million yen to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on Monday December 19.
