Acceptance of Medical Assistance Team from the Philippines |

In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines decided to dispatch a Medical Assistance Team of three medical doctors, focusing on psychosocial counseling etc, from June 28 (Tuesday) to July 13 (Wednesday). The team, together with Japanese medical doctors and clinical psychologists, plans to engage in mobile medical assistance operations for disaster victims including families of Filipino nationals from the northern part of Iwate Prefecture to the northern part of Miyagi Prefecture, cente red on Ofunato City and Rikuzen-Takata City in the southern part of Iwate Prefecture.
Since immediately after the Earthquake on March 11, H.E. Mr. Benigno S Aquino III, President of the Republic of the Philippines, H.E. Mr. Albert F. Del Rosario, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, and others have expressed deep sympathy and offered assistance. As the necessary arrangements have been made, the Government of Japan has decided to accept the medical team.
The Government of Japan deeply appreciates the cooperation extended by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and hopes for the success of the medical team.
The Embassy of Japan will hold a send-off ceremony for the team at 15:00 on June 27 (Monday) at its JICC Hall. Relevant officials of the Philippine government are also expected to attend the ceremony. Interested press corps are invited to witness the event.
