NIKKEIJIN (JAPANESE DESCENDANT)

 
WHO MAY APPLY FOR THIS TYPE OF VISA?

Children of Japanese Nationals born on or before the end of World War II (referred to as the 2 nd Generation), the 2 nd Generation's descendants and their spouses are eligible to apply for this type of visa.

 

REQUIREMENTS

If no one in the family has applied for a Nikkei-jin Visa under the same 2 nd Generation, the requirements listed under both I and II are necessary.

If someone in the family has already applied for a Nikkei-Jin Visa under the same 2 nd Generation, the requirements listed under II only are necessary.

VISA APPLICATION THROUGH AGENCIES

     

11:00am to 12:00nn on Weekdays (except Wednesdays and Holidays)

      All visa applications without a Certificate of Eligibility shall be filed only through the Accredited Agencies or Registered Nikkei-Jin Agencies starting July 30, 2007 . Visa applications with a Certificate of Eligibility may also be filed through agencies
       
 

PERSONAL VISA APPLICATION

     

3:00pm to 4:00pm on Weekdays (except Wednesdays and Holidays)

     

Only visa applications with a Certificate of Eligibility are accepted on these days and time. The applicant should get a Nikkei-jin Numbered Card from the security guard by the Visa Gate and wait for his/her number to be called at the Nikkei-jin Window.

       
 

REMINDERS FOR Visa Applications WITHOUT a Certificate of Eligibility

    1

All documents must be original copies except for the applicant's passport.

    2. All documents must be put inside a long, brown envelope (please do not seal) with the word “NIKKEI-JIN” in bold letters written on it and must be submitted on the designated time at the Nikkei-jin Window. When a visa application is accepted, the Embassy issues a receipt with a seven(7)-digit number. The applicant/s should keep this receipt at all times.

In the examination process, the Embassy may request for additional documents by sending a letter through mail. In this case, please submit the additional documents during the designated time for filing visa applications.

After the examination of documents, the applicant/s is/are to be interviewed. The interview schedule will be notified by telephone through the contact number/s provided in the visa application form. Depending on each case, the Embassy may request for other family members to be interviewed together with the applicant/s. Please take note of such instructions.

The Embassy will notify the applicant/s when the passport/s shall be released. Passports may be picked up on any working day on or after the designated date. In case of a lost receipt, a Police Report together with a Notarized Affidavit of Loss should be submitted to the Embassy.

       
 

REMINDERS FOR Visa Applications WITH a Certificate of Eligibility

    1

Visa applications may be filed personally or through the Embassy's Accredited or Registered Nikkei-jin Agencies during designated times.

    2

When a visa application is accepted, the Embassy issues a receipt with a seven(7)-digit number. After the examination of documents and/or interview, other additional documents may also be requested. In case these are necessary, please submit the additional requirements within the specified period.

    3

Passports may be picked up on any working day on or after the verification date. In case of a lost receipt, a Police Report together with a Notarized Affidavit of Loss should be submitted to the Embassy.

       
 

OTHERS

   

Documents issued from Japan are only valid within three (3) months from the date of issuance (except for the Koseki Tohon, which is valid for six (6) months from the issue date). For documents issued in the Philippines , validity is for one (1) year from the issue date.

   

Submitted documents will not be returned. However, if the document/s cannot be issued or reproduced again (e.g., rare and important documents such as the 1 st Generation's Passport), the Embassy will only keep a copy and the original will be returned to the applicant/s.

   

The Embassy will only examine genuine documents. Any visa application with forged documents or wrong information will be denied.

   

Applicants who will not be able to submit some of the requirements are requested to submit an explanation letter instead. Submission of complete requirements does not guarantee an issuance of a visa.

   

It is best to apply for a visa well-ahead of the desired date of departure to Japan .

   

Please indicate the complete address and telephone number of the church (or of the school) where the Baptismal Certificate (or the Elementary / High School Record [Form-137]) was issued.

   

Birth Certificates must be from the National Statistics (NSO) Main Office / Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). In case of a non-record in the NSO, you must submit a Certificate of Non-record of Birth together with a birth certificate issued by the Local Civil Registrar.

    Marriage Contracts must be from the National Statistics (NSO) Main Office / Serbilis Outlet Center (Nationwide). In case of a non-record in the NSO, you must submit a Certificate of Non-record of Marriage together with a marriage contract issued by the Local Civil Registrar.
   

If the applicant/s cannot submit additional requirements within three (3) months, his/her application/s will be terminated.

   

If the application was filed through an agency, inquiries regarding the said visa application should be made directly through the agency.

   

If a visa is granted, a VISA FEE will be charged.

   

Denied applicants may apply again after six (6) months with the same purpose, unless there are emergency/humanitarian reasons or the visa application is for a different purpose.

   

Reasons of denied visa applications will not be disclosed.
