1. Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGPs)

  • GGP supports small-scale projects directly benefiting the grassroots level as well as contributing to the socio-economic development of developing countries.
  • Since the launch of J-BIRD in 2006, the Japanese Government has implemented 32 GGP projects in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao (CAAM) amounting to a total of 238 Million Yen (approximately 2.1 Million USD).
  • Schools, training centers, and water supply systems and others have been rehabilitated or constructed through the GGP.

 

2. SERD-CAAM: The Study for Socio-Economic Reconstruction and Development of Conflict Areas in Mindanao

  • This study started in March 2007, and is planned to finish at the end of August 2009.
  • During the study, 11 QIPs (Quick Impact Projects), and 23 OSAs (On the Spot Assistance) have been implemented.
  • These 11 QIPs are construction of schools, multi-purposes buildings, water supply facilities, and so on. The scale of each QIP is amounting to 5~7 Million Yen.
  • About OSAs, these are projects of providing generators, and rice mills, improvement of day-care centers, and elementary schools, and so on. The scale of each OSA is amounting to 70,000 pesos in average.

 

3. ASFDP: ARMM Social Fund for Peace and Development for Peace and Development Project

  • The ASFDP is a Yen Loan project which has started in April 2004. This amounts to 2.47 Billion Yen.
  • The ASFDP is conducted in the ARMM region, and composed of projects in two categories, CDA (Community Development Assistance) and SRI (Strategic Regional Infrastructure). CDA projects have same scale as GGPs, and SRI projects are bigger than CDA projects.
  • Examples of CDA and OSA projects are for construction of multi-purpose centers, water-supply facilities / tanks, warehouses, schools, roads, and so on.

 

4. Other J-BIRD projects for the ARMM

  • ARMM Human Capacity Development Project
  • Formulation of an Infrastructure Development Plan for ARMM
  • Project for Rice-Based Farming Systems Training and Support for ARMM

 

5. Other J-BIRD Projects

  • Emergency food aid of rice to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the Conflict-Affected Areas in Mindanao through the United Nation ' s World Food Programme (WFP) amounting to 860 Million Yen (app. 9.5 Million USD)
  • Central Mindanao Road Project (Yen Loan) amounting to app. 3.7 Billion Yen (app. 40.9 Million USD)
  • 3 projects financed by Japanese Non-Project Grant Aid- Countervalue Fund: Personal Computers for Public Schools Project (Phase 4, Mindanao Component), Construction of Japan-ARMM Friendship Hall and Training Center, and Equipment Supply for Improvement of Road Network in ARMM)
