1. The Third Meeting of the Joint Committee established under the Agreement between Japan and the Republic of the Philippines for an Economic Partnership (hereinafter referred to as “the JPEPA”) was held in Tokyo today, the 28 th of February 2011.
2. The meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Shigeru Nakamura, Ambassador for International Trade and Economic Affairs from the Japanese side, and the Honorable Adrian S . Cristobal Jr ., Undersecretary for International Trade of the Department of Trade and Industry from the Philippine side. Officials and experts from the relevant ministries and agencies of both Governments also participated in the meeting.
3. In the meeting, both sides exchanged views on the operation and implementation of the JPEPA, expressing general satisfaction for the overall achievements under the JPEPA. They reviewed the key aspects of the JPEPA, including reports from the Co-Chairpersons of the four (4) JPEPA Sub-Committees, namely, the Sub-Committee on Investment, Special Sub-Committee on Nurses and Certified Careworkers, Sub-Committee on Improvement of the Business Environment, and Sub-Committee on Cooperation.
4. Both sides also exchanged views on a general review of the Agreement and its implementation and operation in 2011 under Article 161 of the JPEPA.
5. Both sides affirmed their commitment to cooperating to ensure that the JPEPA achieves its full potential.
6. The next meeting of the Joint Committee will be hosted by the Republic of the Philippines. The date and the agenda will be coordinated through diplomatic channels.
