On April 8, 2011, the Agreement on Technical Cooperation between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines entered into force upon the receipt by the Government of Japan of the written notification from the Government of the Republic of the Philippines of the completion of necessary domestic procedures for the entry into force of the Agreement.
The Agreement sets forth comprehensive measures and actions to be taken by the Philippines when accepting technical cooperation from Japan, such as provision of technical training, dispatch of technical experts, senior overseas volunteers, survey missions for economic and social development to the Philippines, as well as accepting trainees from the Philippines by Japan. The Agreement, thus, reduces administrative burdens of the both countries in implementing technical cooperation projects, which will further contribute to smoother implementation of Japan's technical cooperation in the Philippines and to the economic and social development of the country.
The Agreement was signed by then Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso and then Philippine Foreign Secretary Alberto G. Romulo in Tokyo in April, 2006.
Japan, as the top ODA donor, has supported the Philippines for many years in achieving its sustainable economic growth and improving the living conditions of Filipino people through various technical cooperation projects. The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines believes that the entry into force of the Agreement further deepens the cooperation and fosters a strategic partnership between the two countries towards the future.
