Additional Assistance to the Republic of the Philippines
for Typhoon Disaster

On December 13, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency grant aid of 4.2 million US dollars to the Republic of the Philippines, in response to the Typhoon Bopha/Pablo Response-Action Plan for Recovery issued on December 10 based on the damage assessment carried out by the United Nations and the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, following the serious damages caused by Typhoon Bopha (Philippine name: Pablo) centered in the north and east part of Mindanao.

This emergency grant aid aims to provide urgently needed food, shelter, water and sanitation through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).

Prior to this emergency grant aid, the Government of Japan decided to extend emergency relief goods (tents, jerry cans, sleeping pads, etc.) equivalent to approximately 45 million yen to the Government of the Republic of the Philippines, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on December 8. The turnover ceremony was held in Manila on Wednesday December 12.
