Ambassador Urabe pays tribute with President Benigno S. Aquino III and

U.S. Charge‘d Affaires Leslie A.Bassett in the rites marking Araw ng Kagitingan

 

Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe joined the commemoration of the ARAW NG KAGITINGAN on Monday, 9 April 2012. Held at Mt. Samat in Pilar, Bataan, the Ceremony was graced by President Benigno S. Aquino III as the Guest of Honor.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Urabe expressed his heartfelt apologies and deep sense of remorse for the tragedy in the Philippines during World War II. He pointed out that Japan has learned from history and transformed itself. He thanked our forbearers for overcoming the bitterness after the war and having nurtured the strong alliance we enjoy today. Citing examples of close cooperation and friendship among Japan, the Philippines and the United States, he urged succeeding generations to continue on this path.
