To celebrate the 56 years of longstanding friendship and cooperation between Japan and the Philippines, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and the Japan Foundation, Manila (JFM) with various partner organizations are co-presenting an array of remarkable cultural festivities.
Philippines-Japan Friendship month is celebrated in the month of July to commemorate the designation of July 23 as the Philippines-Japan Friendship Day in the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the diplomatic relationship between the two countries in 2006.
As this year marks the 5th anniversary since Philippines-Japan Friendship Month began to be celebrated in July, “Japan Day” will be held on July 21-22 at SM Mall of Asia to provide for opportunities for endless discovery of Japanese Contemporary Pop Culture. In addition, this year's Friendship Month is characterized by its reach out to wider provinces, with many events to be held in Baguio, Cebu, and Davao.

The Embassy of Japan in cooperation with various organizations celebrate the Japan Day this July in commemoration of the 5 th anniversary of the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month since 2007 to celebrate the longstanding friendship between the two countries.
“Japan Day,” a two-day fun-filled festivity in July 21 and July 22 showcase the best of Japanese music, film and the arts by staging once again the 2012 JPOP Anime Singing Contest, the display of the exceptional creativity of cosplayers in the Mini Cosplay event, the exciting film screening of two anime films, Fullmetal “Alchemist: The Sacred Star of Milos” and “Detective Conan: The Lost Ship in the Sky,” and the concert of Japan's hottest pop-opera band, Le Velvets.
“Japan Day,” aims to bring the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month events to a wider audience and further promote friendship and Japanese culture appreciation among Filipinos.

Now on its 4th year, the 2012 J-Pop Anime Singing Contest continues to entice the youthful and energetic talents from all over the Philippines. The 2012 J-Pop Anime Singing Contest finalists will take the center stage as they showcase their best performance to be this year's J-pop Anime Singing Idols.
Alongside with the 2012 J-POP Anime Singing Contest Grand Finale is the awarding ceremony of the Mini Cosplay Contest where fifteen finalists will have a chance to display their most creative and alluring costume as they imitate the signature move of their favorite anime characters.
The audience will also be entertained by a musical performance by the Embassy of Japan's own music band, the “No Plan Band”. Various engaging activities are in stored for all Japanophiles such as anime-making demonstration by Toei Animation Philippines, meet and greet session with Doraemon and Nobita, and Japanese food tasting by Yashinoya.
Immediately after the J-Pop Anime Singing Contest Grand Finale, there will be free screening of Japanese animation films in SM Mall of Asia, Cinema 6.

The Embassy of Japan in cooperation with the Japan Foundation Manila, the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the Japanese Association of Northern Luzon have lined up various cultural activities for the City of Pines to enjoy for the Philippines-Japan Friendship celebration.
“Can You See the Lights?: First Film Festival after the Tsunami” and “Setting Sail from the Ruins”, two documentaries about Great East Japan Earthquake recovery, headlines films lined up for the festival. The other featured films to be screened are: “Fukushima Hula Girls”, “Wanko- the story of me, my family and my dog”, “Éclair”, “Haru's Journey”, and “Quartet.” Free screenings will be held at the following venues: University of Baguio, Benguet State University, Baguio Cinematheque, University of the Cordilleras, UP Baguio, and Saint Louis University, and the Baguio Museum. These venues are selected in order to accommodate a bigger audience.
The Aki and Kuniko Concert and Workshop which will provide an opportunity for the City of Pines to witness the acoustic duo with their sensational skill on playing the acoustic guitar and koto, a traditional instrument of Japan. This event will take place at the University of Cordilleras Theater.
The Traditional Dances and Cultural Exchange Program will feature students from universities in Kyoto and the Benguet State University.
The 3rd Japanese Tanabata Festival 2012 is set to launch with the themes: “Prayer to the Stars” and “Overcoming Disaster”. This exhibit will feature remarkable photos about the colorful Tanabata Festival. It will also include an Origami Workshop and Cosplay and Anime Activity. All of these wonderful events will take place at the Baguio Museum.

The Japan Festival 2012, the first time for the City of Cebu, will have the Wakodaiko Drum Club from Saitama as the main attraction from the list of events scheduled to amaze the Queen City of the South. Two performances will be held by the group at the Ayala Activity Stage Center.
Japanese and Filipino dancers will also perform the tradional Awa Odori. The Karaoke Sing-along Competition also features Japanese and Filipino participants. More cultural events such as a Karate Show , Cosplay , and Sushi and Japanese noodles Eating Contest are scheduled all for the enjoyment of the citizens of Cebu.
As part of the Japanese Film Festival or “EigaSai” , 10 Japanese films will also be screened for free from August 7 to August 12 at Cinema 4, Ayala Center Cebu.
