Ambassador Toshinao Urabe lauds Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku’s significant contributions
in strengthening the Philippines-Japan relationship.
On the 2nd of October 2013, Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe visited Davao City and handed over the certificate of commendation from Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan to Mme. Ines P. Mallari, the President of Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku, during the opening ceremony of the Philippine-Japan Festival which was held at the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School in Lanang, Davao City.
In his speech, Ambassador Urabe applauded the outstanding achievement by MKD students at the Japan Foundation Manila National Japanese Language Speech Contest among other accomplishments and hoped that MKD will continue their laudable journey in the quest for friendship and cooperation, not only between Japan and the Philippines, but among the members of our global community.
Mme. Mallari, in reply, said that MKD would continue to move forward in its quest for excellence and to take an active role in further strengthening the close and friendly relations between the Philippines and Japan as well as providing quality human resources for the development of the Philippines, Japan and throughout ASEAN.
MKD began its operation as a private higher educational institution in 2002. MKD has been successful in teaching the Japanese language as one of the major subjects in the curriculum. The college is owned and managed by the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai, an association of Japanese descendants, with the support of Japanese benefactors.
Last 31 July 2013, Fumio Kishida, the Foreign Minister of Japan, conferred a certificate of commendation to Mindanao Kokusai Daigaku (MKD) in recognition of its efforts in the promotion of Japanese Language Education in the Philippines and its contribution to the enhancement of friendly relations between the Philippines and Japan. This certificate is awarded to individuals and organizations which have contributed to the promotion of friendship and goodwill between Japan and other countries.
