On November 12, the Government of Japan decided to provide emergency relief goods worth up to 60 million yen (approximately 607,000 US dollars) to the Republic of the Philippines, following the devastating damage caused by Typhoon Yolanda. The relief goods include plastic sheets for shelters, sleeping pads, and other necessary commodities, which are expected to alleviate the difficulties of the affected people.
The Japanese Government has already dispatched the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team to the affected area. The Japanese government has also dispatched personnel from Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA for the damage assessment and had two JICA experts join the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team for coordination with international donors. On November 12, the Japanese government also announced the provision of emergency grant aid of 10 million US dollars through international organizations.
In the face of the serious damages and in light of strong bonds existing between Japan and the Philippines as strategic partners, the Government of Japan made this decision to extend emergency assistance for those affected.
