Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe will attend the turn-over ceremony of "The Project for Installation of a Walk-in Freezer in the Vaccine Storage Facility for Promotion of Vaccination" on November 18, 2013. The project was funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The project was initiated by the RITM situated in Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila. Amount of grant provided by GGP was US$89,622 (approximately 3.6 million pesos) and was utilized for the installation of a new walk-in freezer that will serve as storage for vaccines to support the full implementation of the immunization program of the government. The provision of the said facility is vital to address the need to replace the old freezer to ensure proper storage of vaccines.
Installation of a walk-in freezer will benefit a total of 2.5 million infants nationwide. Also, through this project, the Philippines will be able to enhance its capacity to preserve vaccines thereby preventing incidence of polio diseases and contributing to the worldwide promotion of public health.
The Government of Japan, as the top ODA donor for the Philippines, launched the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects in the Philippines in 1989 for the purpose of reducing poverty and helping various communities engaged in grassroots activities. At present, 488 grassroots projects have been implemented by GGP. Japan believes that this project will not only strengthen the friendship between the peoples of Japan and the Philippines but also contribute to further fostering a strategic partnership between Japan and the Philippines toward the future.
