Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Mr. Nasser T. Sanday, Chairperson of the Board, First Farmers Marketing Cooperative (FFMC) signed the grant contract for “ The Project for Construction of Post Harvest Facilities in Datu Abdullah Sanki, Maguindanao ” on 19 March 2013 . The p roject, amounting to US$ 102,151 (approximately 4 million pesos) , is funded through the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The absence of post harvest facilities and agricultural equipment has resulted to low agricultural productivity among farmers in the area, affecting their economic status as they are forced to rent the needed services at a higher rate.
Through the GGP, the FFMC will be provided funding for the a) construction of a warehouse; b) construction of a solar dryer; and c) procurement of agricultural equipment that will directly benefit the 111 cooperative members and low-income farmers from nearby communities.
The project is part of the Japan-Bangsamoro Initiatives for Reconstruction and Development (J-BIRD), the Japanese government's package of assistance in support of peace and development in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
