Japan funds Agricultural Training Center

in Tangkal, Lanao del Norte

Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe congratulates Mayor Aisah D.A. Batingolo of the Municipality of Tangkal, Lanao del Norte after signing the grant contract for “The Project for Construction of Agricultural Training Center in the Municipality of Tangkal ” on March 19, 2013.

Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Mayor Aisah D.A. Batingolo of the Municipality of Tangkal signed the grant contract for “The Project for Construction of Agricultural Training Center in the Municipality of Tangkal ” on 19 March 2013 . The p roject, amounting to US$ 100,000 (approximately 3.9 million pesos) , is funded through the scheme of the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

Agriculture is the main source of livelihood in Tangkal. Nevertheless, lack of farming technology has resulted in unused farmlands in the Municipality. The farmers are in need of opportunity to have agricultural training.

Through the GGP, the Municipality of Tangkal will be provided funding for the construction of a Training Center that will serve as a venue for the various agriculture-related trainings to benefit approximately 9,000 farmers in the municipality. This will provide them greater opportunities to enhance their agricultural productivity.

The project is part of the Japan-Bangsamoro Initiatives for Reconstruction and Development (J-BIRD), the Japanese government's package of assistance in support of peace and development in conflict-affected areas in Mindanao.
