This 2013, 13 new Filipino scholars have been accepted into the Japanese Government Scholarship offered annually to outstanding foreign students by the Government of Japan.
Joining the roster are 12 teachers under the Teacher Training Program and 1 student under the Japanese Studies Program:

The Teacher Training category offers scholarship to teachers of elementary and secondary educational institutions or academic staff in a teacher training school. Students under this scholarship will conduct research on school education at Japanese universities for 1 1/2 years. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must have good academic standing and carry at least 5 years of teaching experience.
The Japanese Studies Program covers a 1-year scholarship period for academic study in Japan to foreign students majoring in Japanese language and culture. This program aims to deepen students' understanding of the Japanese language, Japanese affairs and Japanese culture. To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be below 29 years old and must have enough knowledge of the Japanese language.
Since 1954, the Japanese Government Scholarship has been supporting foreign nationals to study in Japan for advancement of education and the promotion of mutual understanding. Since its implementation more than 50 years ago, there have been about 3,000 Filipino recipients of this scholarship. All Japanese Government Scholarship Programs are offered yearly.
