PHILAJAMES President, and members and officers; and 2014 Japanese Government Scholars
The Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) of the Embassy of Japan, in cooperation with the Philippine Association of Japanese Government Scholars (PHILAJAMES, Inc.), conducted a pre-departure orientation for the 2014 batch of outgoing Japanese Government Scholars on March 24, 2014 (Monday) at the JICC Function Hall. The scholars are scheduled to leave this April to pursue further education in Japanese universities. Among the ranks of new scholars, number 28 students under the Research Category, and 1 student, respectively, for the Special Training, and Undergraduate Categories.
Ambassador Toshinao Urabe personally sent off the scholars with a warm message to inspire them, comparing their unfolding potential to the cherry blossom. JICC Director Tatsuo Kitagawa also delivered the opening remarks, to motivate them to rise to the challenge of uplifting the future of the Philippines. Former JICC Director Kiyoshi Takeuchi, Researcher/Advisor Shinichiro Kato, as well the PHILAJAMES officers and members, were also present during the event. PHILAJAMES President, Ms. Grace Sapuay, did the honors of greeting and congratulating the scholars, on behalf of the alumni. As part of the program, scholars also participated in an open forum to prepare them for their arrival in Japan.
Since 1954, the Japanese Government Scholarship has sponsored the education of more than 3,000 Filipino students, continuing a legacy of cooperation and mutual understanding for over 50 years.
