Pre-departure Orientation Held for

2015 Japanese Government Scholars

On March 21, 2015 (Saturday), the Embassy of Japan and the Philippine Association of Japanese Government Scholars (PHILAJAMES, Inc.) conducted a pre-departure orientation for recipients of the 2015 Japanese Government Scholarship at the JICC Multipurpose Hall. The scholars, composed of 24 Research and 1 Special Training students, are scheduled to leave for Japan in April 2015.

 

To formally open the program, Professor Gilda Uy, President of the PHILJAMES Inc. National Chapter, gave the welcome remarks and introduced PHILAJAMES to the new batch of scholars. Apart from receiving lectures on Japanese culture and social customs, the new scholars also participated in an open forum. Also among those present during the pre-departure orientation were Ms. Nanette Masanque, a current scholar and the Vice President for Alumni Relations of the Association of the Filipino Students in Japan (AFSJ) and former Japanese Government Scholars Dr. Vincent Louie Tan, Chairperson, Interior Design – School of Design and Arts and Dr. Michael Delmo, Associate Professor- De La Salle University, who all gave inspirational talks on their experiences as students in Japan. The event concluded with closing remarks from JICC Director Mr. Tatsuo Kitagawa, who stressed on the importance of seizing opportunities and constant self-development.

 

Since 1954, the Japanese Government Scholarship has sponsored the education of more than 3,000 Filipino students, continuing a legacy of cooperation and mutual understanding for over 50 years.
