Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team

Start Medical Relief Activities in Basey, Samar

in Response to the Typhoon Yolanda

 

 

  1. On November 18, the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Medical Team, which has been working in Tacloban since November 15, also started medical relief activities in Basey District Hospital in Basey, Samar in response to the emerging medical needs in the local community.

  2. In Basey District Hospital, which was severely ravaged by the Typhoon Yolanda, only one doctor and one nurse had been treating patients restlessly in the wake of the disaster. Upon the request by the Department of Health (DOH), the JDR Medical Team decided to expand its activities to Basey to alleviate the difficulties of the affected people.

The first batch of JDR Medical Team consists of 27 medical doctors, nurses, and supporting staffs. On November 15, they started medical activities and have treated 481 patients in Tacloban, Leyte as of November 18. The second batch of JDR Medical Team is expected to arrive in the Philippines on November 20 and to replace the first batch to continue medical activities in the affected area.
