Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Mr. Ramon B. Belgica , signed the grant contract for “ The Project for Construction of Classrooms for Kilicao High School ” on 5 March 2013 at the Embassy of Japan. The p roject, amounting to US$ 120,659 (approximately 4.7 million pesos) , is funded through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
Since its establishment four (4) years ago, the enrollment in Kilicao High School has continued to increase, catering to students coming from seven (7) different barangays in the Municipality of Daraga. This has resulted to the utilization of overcrowded and makeshift classrooms, which has forced the students to attend classes in dilapidated “nipa huts” and tattered tents that are not conducive to learning especially during the rainy season, given that Bicol Region is a typhoon prone area.
Through the GGP, Kilicao High School will be funded for construction of six (6) new classrooms equipped with armchairs, blackboards and sets of tables and chairs for teachers.
The improvement of the school facilities is also expected to encourage a number of Out-of-School Youth (OSY) in the community to finish their secondary education.
