Japan Commits PHP338 Million ODA

Providing Medical Equipment and Products Produced by Japan's SMEs

 

 

 

Japanese Ambassador Toshinao Urabe and Secretary of Foreign Affairs Albert F. Del Rosario exchanged notes for the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Medical Equipment” amounting to 600 million yen (approximately 253 million pesos) and the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese SME's Products” amounting to 200 million yen (approximately 84 million pesos) on March 18 , 2013.

 

The “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Medical Equipment” aims to improve the healthcare situation in the Philippines by providing high-quality medical equipment produced by Japanese medical device makers.

 

The “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese SME's Products” aims to contribute to the development in the Philippines through the utilization of products produced by Japan's SMEs, which are excellent but sometimes not so well known outside of Japan.

 

The specific products to be provided under these projects will be decided in accordance with the Philippine Government's requests. It is supposed to provide products that will contribute to the Philippines' development throug h making use of Japanese technology such as ultrasonograph and X-ray apparatus under the “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese Medical Equipment” and observation equipment for weather monitoring and river monitoring under “Non-Project Grant Aid for Provision of Japanese SME's Products.”

 

These projects are expected to contribute to overcoming the vulnerability to risks such as diseases and disasters that affect marginalized people the most and to stabilize bases for human life through the improvement of healthcare and disaster prevention. These aims of the projects are in alignment with the concept of “Inclusive Growth” that is stated in the “Philippine Development Plan 2011-2016 , ” as well as Human Security concepts which the Japanese Government is promoting. As such, the projects serve as a continuing testimony of strategic partnership between Japan and the Philippines.
