Minister for Economic Affairs, Akio Isomata, of the Embassy of Japan attended the Send-Off Ceremony for the 11th Batch of Fellows of the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship Project or JDS on 8 August 2013 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Also in attendance were Director of Foreign Service Institute of Department of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ma. Angelina Miciano Sta. Catalina, officials of National Economic and Development Authority, Civil Service Commission, and representatives of Philippine Government agencies which the 11th Batch of Fellows belong.
This project aims to enhance the JDS Fellows' expertise in their respective fields, such as "Good Governance", "Agriculture and Rural Development / Small and Medium-sized Enterprise for Improvement of Livelihood", "Regional Development and Administration in Mindanao", "Financial Reform and Investment Promotion Policy", and "Basis for Economic Growth", and to help build a pool of future Filipino leaders from various governmental institutions, such as Department of Budget and Management, National Statistical Coordination Board, Commission on Audit, etc., who are expected to contribute to the country's overall socio-economic development by returning to and working in the Philippines.
The JDS project is a scholarship project aimed mainly at the empowerment of government officials of developing nations and financed by the Government of Japan through its Official Development Assistance - Grant Aid Program. A total of 20 persons comprise the 11th Batch of JDS Fellows from the Philippines. To date, the Philippines has a total of 239 JDS Fellows.
