On April 29, 2014, the Government of Japan announced the conferment of the " Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays" to Mr. Masahiko Ieda, in recognition of his valuable contributions to the welfare and improvement of Japanese residents over the many years in Manila.
Mr. Masahiko Ieda has arrived in the Philippines in 1961, to engaged himself in the research of Abaca pulping (Manila Hemp). His remarkable achievement was awarded the Minister of International Trade and Industry Japan Award in 1984.
Mr. Ieda was one of the founding members of "Manila-Kai" in 1984, an organization of Japanese permanent residents in Manila. He was instrumental in improving the welfare of Japanese permanent residents. Also, he helped to create the PRA Japanese Club Inc with the cooperation of the Philippine Retirement Authority. This is an organization of Japanese retirement residents established in 2002. He is the president of this club from 2006 and representing the Japanese retirement residents for a better life in the Philippines.
In addition, since 1995, Mr. Ieda is a board member of the Manila Japanese Association Inc., the largest Japanese organization in Philippines which operates the Japanese School of Manila among other activities. He has been contributing to the community activities of Japanese residents as a whole and is the vice president of the Manila Japanese Association Inc. today.
