First Secretary, Hiroyuki Enoki, of the Embassy of Japan attended the Send-Off Ceremony for the 12th Batch of Fellows of the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship Project or JDS on 1 August 2014 at Holiday Inn & Suites Makati. Also in attendance were Executive Director of Civil Service Institute of Civil Service Commission, Arthur Luis P. Florentin, officials of National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Foreign Affairs, and representatives of Philippine Government agencies which the 12th Batch of Fellows belong.
This project aims to enhance the JDS Fellows' expertise in their respective fields, such as "Good Governance", "Agriculture and Rural Development / Small and Medium-sized Enterprise for Improvement of Livelihood", "Regional Development and Administration in Mindanao", "Financial Reform and Investment Promotion Policy", and "Basis for Economic Growth", and to help build a pool of future Filipino leaders from various governmental institutions, such as Department of Foreign Affairs, Presidential Management Staff, Department of Public Works and Highways, etc., who are expected to contribute to the country's overall socio-economic development by returning to and working in the Philippines.
The JDS project is a scholarship project aimed mainly at the empowerment of government officials of developing nations and financed by the Government of Japan through its Official Development Assistance - Grant Aid Program. A total of 20 persons comprise the 12th Batch of JDS Fellows from the Philippines. To date, the Philippines has a total of 259 JDS Fellows.
