Conferment Ceremony of the Japanese Imperial Decoration to Former Prime Minister Cesar Enrique Aguinaldo Virata

On November 24th, Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa hosted at his residence the Conferment Ceremony of the Imperial Decoration of the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun to Honorable Cesar Enrique Aguinaldo Virata, former Prime Minister of the Republic of the Philippines.

This was awarded in recognition of Honorable Virata’s contribution to promoting friendly relations and developing economic cooperation between Japan and the Philippines. The decoration was decided on November 3rd by the Government of Japan.

During the ceremony, Honorable Franklin M. Drilon, Senate President Pro-Tempore, gave a congratulatory remark to make a toast. Senator Drilon was also awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun and attended the Conferment Ceremony at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo and the decoration was bestowed by His Majesty, the Emperor of Japan on November 8th 2016.

This year, the Government of Japan announced six foreign nationals for the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun. Two of them were Former Prime Minister Virata and Senator Drilon.
