“JS Izumo” docks on PH shore, welcomes President Duterte

President Duterte boarded “Izumo,” the largest escort vessel of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, during its port call in Subic on June 4. He was the first foreign head of state to do so.
We are very thankful that the President took time off from his busy schedule to tour the vessel, and are pleased that he found “Izumo” to be “very impressive” and “state of the art” while praising its HA/DR capability.
As maritime states, both the Philippines and Japan have a shared interest in ensuring maritime security. By boosting our defense cooperation, we can further deepen overall bilateral ties.
