2017/10/12
The Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) and the National Youth Commission (NYC) sent off 27 Filipino delegates of the 44th Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Program (SSEAYP) in a pre-departure orientation held last Monday, October 9, 2017, at the JICC Multi-Purpose Hall, Embassy of Japan.

Minister Atsushi Kuwabara, Consul-General of the Embassy of Japan, warmly welcomed the SSEAYP delegates, named Batch Bulawan, and encouraged them to help “create a brighter future for Asia” through the program. NYC Commissioner-at-Large Mr. Paul Anthony Pangilinan also extended his greetings to the delegates, urging them to give back to the Philippines when they return from the program.

SSEAYP Batch Bulawan National Leader Junel Ann Divinagracia and Youth Leader Rachelle Miranda took turns to present their batch’s plans throughout the program. Ms. Miranda expressed her batch’s vision to share their SSEAYP experience through a series of educational enhancements. These efforts aim to contribute to improving education in the Philippines.

The Government of Japan carries out the SSYEAP in cooperation with ASEAN countries, to help strengthen the spirit of international cooperation between Japan and ASEAN youths. The program allows delegates to have various opportunities for cultural exchange and fostering local and international leadership within 52 days, as they travel to Japan and other ASEAN countries.

SSYEAP Batch Bulawan will first stay in Japan from October 23, 2017 to November 2, 2017, where they will receive trainings and orientations, and stay with their foster families through homestays. The batch will embark on their voyage to different ASEAN countries via the Nippon Maru (the name of a ship which they embark) from November 2, 2017 to December 12, 2017.
