Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) - Press Release No. 50- 2017
On December 6, Ambassador Koji Haneda hosted a National Day Reception at his residence in Makati City to celebrate the 84th birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. Distinguished guests present were Secretary of Transportation Arthur Tugade, Secretary of Public Works and Highways Mark Villar, Secretary of Budget and Management Benjamin Diokno and Senator Franklin Drilon, among others.
Having started his diplomatic career in Manila in the early 1980s, Ambassador Haneda expressed in his speech how very fortunate he felt to come back to the country as Ambassador this year, when Japan-Philippines relations have never been better. He noted that Prime Minister Abe visited the Philippines twice this year, and was the first foreign leader to spend time with President Duterte at the latter’s private residence in Davao. Ambassador Haneda said that PM Abe’s pledge during that visit “a five-year economic package worth 450 billion pesos” has been steadily implemented. He concluded his speech by reiterating his resolve to do his best to further promote this Golden Age of Japan-Philippine Strategic Partnership.
At the reception, PR booths were set up by Japanese companies to promote their products, technology, and services.
