Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan Awards Foreign Minister’s Commendation to PHILFEJA
Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) - Press Release No. 32- 2018
The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced on July 17, 2018 the awarding of the Foreign Minister’s Commendation to the Philippine Federation of Japan Alumni (PHILFEJA). This is in recognition of PHILFEJA’s vital contributions to advancing Japan-Philippines relations through its role in connecting all Filipino Japan alumni and promoting the values of Japanese education in the Philippines.
As the umbrella organization connecting various Japanese scholarship alumni organizations in the Philippines, PHILFEJA has worked tirelessly to disseminate valuable information about Japanese scholarship programs to Filipinos since its foundation in July 19, 1976. Moreover, PHILFEJA has continuously endorsed activities that strengthen good relations between Japan and the Philippines, mainly through encouraging Filipino youth to study in Japan.
PHILFEJA has also worked to connect Filipino professionals who have deepened their knowledge and expertise through their various educational experiences in Japan. Additionally, PHILFEJA has strongly supported the alliance of major Japan alumni organizations within the ASEAN region by spearheading the founding of the ASEAN Council of Japan Alumni (ASCOJA) on June 11, 1977. Today, ASCOJA continues to foster deeper ties between Japan alumni from ASEAN countries.
In 2016, representative of PHILFEJA and former Filipino Japan scholars met with Their Majesties, the Emperor and Empress of Japan, during their state visit to the Philippines.
The Embassy of Japan extends its sincere congratulations to PHILFEJA, and hopes that it will continue to serve its purpose to bring Filipino Japan alumni together towards developing a stronger appreciation of Japanese education among more Filipinos.
