On November 19, 2018, Ambassador Koji Haneda treated guests at a mini-concert performed by London-based Japanese pianist and composer Motoki Hirai.

The intimate musical gathering graciously showcased Mr. Hirai’s musical eloquence through his original compositions and famous classics. He also captivated his audience with his performance of Filipino classics such as “Sampaguita (La Flor De Manila),” sharing that Filipino folk legends such as “The Carabao and the Cow” have inspired some of his compositions.

Mr. Hirai endeared himself further to his audience with his Filipino connection, despite visiting the Philippines for just the first time. His parents, cello virtuoso Takeichiro Hirai and pianist Minako Hirai, once performed in the presence of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino, as shown in photos shared by Ambassador Haneda at the end of the mini-concert.
