National Day Reception in Davao City Celebrates the 85th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On the 28th of November, National Day Reception celebrating the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan was held at SMX Convention Center in Davao City. This year’s reception was attended by around 200 guests, including Councilor Marissa Abella who represented Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Department of Foreign Affairs Mindanao Assistant Secretary Robert Ferrer Jr., Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. of the Eastern Mindanao Command, Commodore Ramil Roberto Enriquez of the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao, Department of Science and Technology Regional Director Anthony Sales, along with various business leaders and academics of the Davao community and representatives from the Japanese community.

Mr. Takehiro Kano, Minister / Deputy Chief of the Mission, hosted the reception on behalf of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines. In his speech, Minister Kano emphasized that Japan strongly supports the development of Mindanao including Davao’s infrastructure and the Mindanao peace process. In regards to Japan-Philippines relations, Minister Kano mentioned that the Consulate General of Japan in Davao will be launched in January 2019 and the Davao Japanese Association currently celebrates its centennial anniversary this year.

During the National Day Reception, a signing ceremony was held for Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project: Enhancement and Renovation of the Philippine-Japan Historical Museum. The grand contract was signed by Judge Antonina B. Escovilla, President of Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai, Incorporated and Mr. Yoshiaki Miwa, Counsellor and Director at the Consular Office of Japan in Davao.
