National Day Reception in Cebu City Celebrates the 85th Birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan

On December 6, National Day Reception to celebrate the birthday of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan was held in Cebu City. It was attended by around 180 guests, including Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, Police Regional Office VII Director Debold M. Sinas, various business leaders and academics of the Cebu community, and representatives from the Japanese community.
Mr. Takehiro Kano, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission, hosted the reception on behalf of the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines. In his speech, Minister Kano emphasized the very palpable presence of Japan in the Visayas as exemplified by successful and well-attended annual events such as the Bon Odori Festival and the Tomodachi Golf Tournament.
In regard to the fulfilment of Japan’s commitment to support President Duterte’s “ Build Build Build” Program, Minister Kano cited Japan’s support for projects such as the Masterplan Study on Urban Transport System Development in Metro Cebu, construction of the bridge that will connect Cebu and Mactan Island, and the Bohol Panglao International Airport which finally opened last month.
