A Musical Send-Off Reception for Asia in Resonance 2019’s Filipino Orchestra Performers

2019/6/27

Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) - Press Release No.51 - 2019

On June 24, Ambassador Koji Haneda welcomed select members of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) and Manila Symphony Orchestra (MSO) in a send-off reception at his residence for their upcoming performance at the Asia in Resonance 2019 Gala Concert. They are scheduled to perform alongside musicians from four other Southeast Asian countries and Japan at the Tokyo Metropolitan Theater Concert Hall on July 1.

Ambassador Haneda’s welcome remarks highlighted the participation of PPO and MSO in Asia in Resonance 2019 as a valuable boost to the further expansion of cultural exchanges between Japan and the Philippines. Japan Foundation Manila Director Hiroaki Uesugi also extended his well-wishes to PPO and MSO members in his message. PPO Program Director Eugene Delos Santos offered a toast to the guests.

Also gracing the reception were two Filipino football players and one Filipino coach, who just arrived from Japan after playing in the all-Southeast Asian side ASIAN ELEVEN in a U-18 international friendly against the Tohoku Selection Team. The friendly match, which also formed part of Asia in Resonance 2019, helped foster an international sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.

Guests were treated to a delightful performance by PPO and MSO members, who played classical renditions of familiar tunes such as the theme song of My Neighbor Totoro, Japanese children’s song Furusato, and Filipino love song Hatinggabi

Asia in Resonance is a series of events held annually by the Japan Foundation Asia Center to facilitate cultural exchange and strengthen people-to-people ties between Japan and Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines.
