Ambassador Koji Haneda attended the Blessing and Installation of the Statue of Blessed Takayama Ukon, and the Unveiling of his Historical Marker at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) on June 29, 2019. The ceremony was hosted by His Eminence Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle, Archbishop of Manila. His Excellency Apostolic Nuncio Gabriele Giordano Caccia also attended the ceremony.
The Statue was installed at the PLM Chapel, followed by the unveiling of the markers which follow Takayama Ukon’s journey in Manila.
In his speech, Ambassador Haneda expressed his sincere hopes that the installation of the statue and markers of Blessed Takayama Ukon will attract more Japanese tourists to take part in “History Walks” around Intramuros and will also foster partnerships between the Philippines and Japan.
