Donation of Luzon Jar
On October 14, 2019, Ambassador Koji Haneda received a Luzon Jar from Dr. Jaime Laya as a symbol of deepening ties between Philippines and Japan.
The jar is said to be one of the Chinese jars exported to the Philippines in the 16th century. These were then exported to Japan and were prized for their function as storage for tea (Laya, 2017).
Dr. Laya is a member of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX). He is also a prominent public servant and have held positions such as Minister of Budget, Governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines, Minister of Education, Culture and Sports, and Chairman of the National Commission of Culture and Arts.
