Food and Friendship: The Japan-Philippines 65th Anniversary Online Cooking Contest (Cooking Contest) is an online competition that will be conducted as part of the year-long celebration of the 65th anniversary of the normalization of bilateral ties between Japan and the Philippines.

The competition will center on photo and video entries from Filipino contestants that focus on Japanese cuisine and/or Filipino-Japanese fusion cooking and will be judged on criteria such presentation, recipe, and photo or video quality.

The contest will be done in two stages: the First Round, wherein contestants will submit photos of their dish, and the Second/Final Round, where shortlisted contestants from the First Round will submit videos of themselves preparing the dish they previously submitted as their entry for the first round.

The final winner shall be determined by Chef Suzuki and will be invited to dine with Ambassador KOSHIKAWA Kazuhiko in his residence*, during which the winning dish will be served as part of the menu.
The Cooking Contest will be posted on the Embassy’s Official Facebook page.

*The dinner will be subject to health protocols and will be scheduled in accordance to existing community quarantine measures in the area.


OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES:


TERM

Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these Official Rules. By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that their entry complies with all requirements set out in the Official Rules


WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?

The cooking contest will be open to Filipino amateur cooks, home cooks, small business owners, culinary students, and food enthusiasts who are willing to prepare and take a photo a dish as specified in the “Entries” section of the Official Contest Rules. No age restrictions apply.

Professional chefs are not allowed to join the contest. Contestants below the age of 18 will need permission from their parents/guardians to join the contest (as indicated in the Certification and Consent Form).


ENTRIES (FIRST ROUND)

(a.) To enter the Cooking Contest, a contestant must submit a photo of a Japanese-Filipino fusion dish or a Japanese dish made with Filipino or locally-sourced ingredients along with the necessary contest forms. A photo submission will be considered as one entry, and only one entry per person will be accepted. Group submissions are not allowed.

(b.) Photo entries must be submitted in .jpeg or .png only

(c.) Photo submissions without the necessary or with incomplete contest forms will be automatically disqualified

(d.) Entries and other pertinent documents will not be returned

(e.) Each photo submission must be original and created entirely by the participant.
 
(f.) By submitting an entry, contestants agree to let the Organizers use it for future promotion, marketing, and publication purposes.


SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE OF ENTRIES

Entries must be submitted via email with the subject: Cooking Contest Entry to: jicc-mnl@ma.mofa.go.jp

The deadline of submission of photo entries and other requirements is on or before Friday, May 7, 2021.


SELECTION OF ENTRIES
 

  • The Screening Committee will choose entries which will progress to the Second Round. Qualified contestants will be notified through e-mail by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC), Embassy of Japan.

FIRST ROUND CONTEST FORMS

As stipulated in the Official Rules, all forms pertaining to the contest must be duly accomplished and submitted along with the contestants’ photo entry. Please check the following list to make sure all necessary contest forms are complete upon submission
 


ENTRIES (SECOND ROUND)

(a.) Only selected entries as chosen by the Screening Committee will be qualified for the Second Round

(b.) Qualified contestants will be instructed to submit a video of themselves preparing the dish they submitted during the first round, along with the necessary contest forms.

(c.) Entries must be submitted in standard video formats (wmv, mp4, or mpeg only) through Google Drive.

(d.) Entries and other pertinent documents will not be returned

(e.) Each submission must be original and created entirely by the participant, from pre-production to post-production of the video. Submissions must not include anything that violates any law or the copyright of any third party, including the use of music. Entrants are advised to remove or obscure labels/brand names from any commercial products used in their videos. The Embassy may, at its discretion, disqualify any submission it believes incorporates materials without permission from the owners or are not otherwise in the public domain. Likewise, the Embassy of Japan will not provide any editing tools or assistance to participants.

(f.) Video entries may be in English or Filipino. If the video is spoken in Filipino, it must include English subtitles.

(g.) By submitting an entry, contestants agree to let the Organizers use it for future promotion, marketing, and publication purposes.


SUBMISSION AND DEADLINE OF ENTRIES

Video entries must be saved on the contestants’ Google Drive. The link should be submitted, along with the necessary contest forms via email with the subject: Cooking Contest Second Round Entry to: jicc-mnl@ma.mofa.go.jp

The deadline of submission of video entries and other requirements is on or before Friday, June 11, 2021. 


SELECTION OF ENTRIES
 

  • The Screening Committee will the winning entry for the Cooking Contest. Qualified contestants will be notified through e-mail by the Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC), Embassy of Japan.
  • The winning contestant will be invited to dine with Ambassador KOSHIKAWA Kazuhiko at his residence where the winning dish will be included in the menu served during the dinner. The dinner will be subject to health protocols and will be scheduled in accordance to existing community quarantine measures in the area.
