INAUGURATION CEREMOMY FOR 2 NEW STATIONS OF
LRT-2 EAST EXPANSION PROJECT

LRT-2 EAST EXPANSION PROJECT

On July 1st, Embassy of Japan’s Economic Minister NAKATA Masahiro, joined President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark A. Villar, Transportation Secretary Arthur P. Tugade, Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, and other distinguished guests at the inauguration ceremony of the two (2) new stations of LRT-2, Marikina station and Antipolo station, marking the completion of LRT-2’s East Extension Project.
Japan’s official development assistance contributed to the construction of the railways as well as electrical and signaling system, with DOTr providing basic civil works such as construction of station buildings.
The East Extension Project adds four (4) kilometers to the existing 13.8-kilometer LRT-2 train line, connecting it to Antipolo City. The East Extension is expected to add 80,000 passengers to the current 240,000 daily ridership of LRT-2, which presently connects Recto Avenue in Manila to Santolan station in Marikina. With the two new stations, travel time from Recto to Masinag, Antipolo will only take 40 minutes, compared to a three-hour trip by bus and jeepney.
Japan’s ongoing cooperation, through a variety of official development assistance, continues to support the Philippines’ Build, Build, Build program by delivering safe and efficient railway systems for the benefit of all Filipinos.
