Opening Ceremony of Widened Plaridel Bypass

2021/7/9

On July 9, Japan Embassy’s Minister for Economic Affairs, NAKATA Masahiro, joined Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain at the opening ceremony of the 2.2km widened portion of the Plaridel Bypass Road in the Province of Bulacan.

Plaridel Bypass is a new alternative route traversing the municipalities of Balagtas, Guiguinto, Plaridel, Bustos and San Rafael in Bulacan, funded by the Government of the Philippines and the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency under the Arterial Road Bypass Project.

The previously completed first two lanes of Plaridel Bypass shortened travel time to and from North Luzon Expressway via a new interchange in Barangay Burol, Balagtas to the Philippines-Japan Friendship Highway in Barangay Maasim, San Rafael, Bulacan to just 30 minutes, addressing traffic diverted from Maharlika Highway by accommodating 15,000 vehicles per day.

This time, Contract Package 3 widened 2.2 kilometers of the existing two-lane road into four lanes and constructed the second Angat bridge. The entire 24.61km bypass road will be widened into four lanes in Phase 3 of the project. Completion of this widening project is expected to bring further development to Bulacan and neighboring provinces by promoting industrialization and increased inflow of tourists.
