Japan and U.S. Joint Training with the Philippine Coast Guard in the Philippines
2022/6/27

The Japan Coast Guard (JCG) dispatched its Mobile Cooperation Team (MCT), a special team that provides foreign coast guard agencies with capacity-building on maritime safety and security, to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) under the framework of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) from June 12 to June 25.
During this time, the JCG, together with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), conducted capacity-building support for the PCG. This is the second JCG and USCG joint capacity building this year in Manila. Specifically, the JCG MCT jointly provided technical guidance in towing and firefighting techniques by deploying the two 97-meter patrol vessels recently provided by Japan, “BRP Teresa Magbanua” and “BRP Melchora Aquino” in order to enhance the operational and rescue capabilities of the PCG. The JCG MCT also participated in the small boat operation instructor program that the USCG provided for the PCG.
Following this collaboration training, the JCG and the USCG look forward to providing further capacity-building support to the PCG in the near future.
