Regional Marine Pollution Exercise between JCG, PCG and Indonesia DGST
2024/6/28

From June 24 to 28, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and the Directorate General of Sea Transportation (DGST) conducted the Regional Marine Pollution Exercise (MARPOLEX).
One of the scenarios in the exercise involved a tanker sailing off the coast of Negros Occidental (Bacolod) which collided with a cargo ship and caught fire. The PCG, aware of the incident, requested the cooperation of the JCG patrol vessel and the DGST patrol vessel.
In this exercise, the three agencies jointly conducted search and rescue, firefighting, and oil control operations. They were also able to share their experiences and knowledge on oil control, ensuring smooth cooperation and response over the course of the oil control operation. Ultimately, this exercise played a significant role to the realization of a free and open Indo-Pacific.
