JICA and ADMU Conduct a Lecture on Japan’s Experiences and Strategies for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience

On 5 September 2024, the 5th JICA Chair Lecture Series was held at the Ateneo de Manila University. The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) co-hosted the lecture, entitled Japan’s Experiences and Strategies for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience.

Ambassador ENDO Kazuya graced the ceremony alongside JICA Philippines Chief Representative SAKAMOTO Takema, ADMU President Fr. Roberto C. Yap, SJ, and Assistant Secretary Noralene M. Uy of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. Dr. NISHIKAWA Satoru, Professor at Tohoku University, delivered a highly informative lecture as the main speaker of the event. Other discussants included Assistant Secretary Bernardino Rafaelito R. Alejandro IV of the Office of Civil Defense and Dr. Emma E. Porio of ADMU.

Ambassador ENDO, in his opening remarks, expressed deepest condolences to those who have lost their lives in the wake of Typhoon Carina and the recent Tropical Storm Enteng and hopes that the students attending this lecture would develop a greater consciousness in tackling disaster risk and working tirelessly towards the development of the Philippines.
Furthermore, the Ambassador also expressed the Japanese government’s commitment to continue to support the Philippines’ attempts for disaster reduction.
