Assistant Defense Attaché CDR KAWAHATA participates in the 81st Commemoration of the Battle of Surigao Strait

On 25 October 2025, Assistant Defense Attaché CDR KAWAHATA Noriyuki attended and delivered Ambassador ENDO Kazuya’s message on his behalf at the 81st Commemoration of the Battle of Surigao Strait, organized by Surigao City and the Province of Dinagat Islands. 

The ceremony was attended by Provincial Governor of Dinagat Islands Nilo P. Demerey,  Mayor of the City of Surigao Pablo Dumlao, and Ambassador of Australia to the Philippines H.E. Marc Innes-Brown, among others. The event featured guests delivering their remarks, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and the lighting of the memorial flame.

The wreath-laying ceremony was conducted in the waters where the Imperial Japanese Navy battleship Fuso, which sank during the Battle of Surigao Strait, now rests.
