Ambassador ENDO and VADM KANOSUE attend the Manila Dialogue on the South China Sea 2025

From 5 to 7 November 2025, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya and Japan Coast Guard (JCG) Vice Commandant for Operations Vice Admiral (VADM) KANOSUE Hiroaki attended the Manila Dialogue on the South China Sea 2025 as panelists.
On 6 November, Ambassador Endo attended a session entitled “The South China Sea as “Global Commons,” during which he discussed with the Ambassadors of Australia, Canada, France, and Germany on their respective countries’ perspectives regarding the South China Sea’s significance and its future outlook. He stated that the issues concerning the South China Sea are directly related to the peace and stability in the region, and reaffirmed that the countries’ duty is to preserve its stability and ensure that the rules-based maritime order consistent with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) prevails, while highlighting the importance of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
On 7 November, Vice Commandant for Operations Kanosue attended a session entitled “Maritime Capacity-Building for a Rule-based, Equitable and Sustainable Maritime Order in the Indo-Pacific,” alongside Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral (RADM) Rommel A. Supangan, and other officers. They discussed the efforts and achievements of Coast Guard agencies in various countries that contribute to maintaining maritime order. VADM Kanosue emphasized how the world is connected by the seas, and maintaining a maritime order based on the rule of law is indispensable for regional and global peace and prosperity. He further reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to realizing a Free and Open Indo-Pacific through strengthened international cooperation and collaboration.
