Ambassador ENDO attends the Ceremonial Turnover of the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan Pumped-Hydro Power Plant

On 9 February 2026, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya attended the Ceremonial Turnover of the Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan (CBK) Pumped-Hydro Power Plant. 

Since Sumitomo Corporation and J-Power joined the operation of the CBK Power Plant in 2005, the CBK Power Plant has been a cornerstone of the Luzon power grid, continuously operating for 24 hours a day all year round. Its ancillary services have then supported the stable supply of electricity to millions of Filipino households. 

As the Philippines aims to expand renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power, pumped-hydro storage plays a vital role in balancing the intermittency of these energy sources. 

With the latest addition of the Aboitiz Group as a partner, the CBK Pumped-Hydro Power Plant is expected to provide stable power supply to various areas across Luzon.
