Ambassador Endo meets with DA Secretary Laurel to discuss ongoing agricultural cooperation

On 04 May 2026, Ambassador ENDO Kazuya met with Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. to discuss ongoing and future areas of cooperation between Japan and the Philippines in the agriculture sector.
During the meeting, Ambassador Endo reaffirmed Japan’s strong commitment to supporting the development of Philippine agriculture. Both sides exchanged views on further strengthening bilateral cooperation, including expanding existing frameworks of collaboration, promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices, and facilitating improved market access and agricultural trade between the two countries.

The discussions also included the Philippines’ participation in the Green Expo 2027 in Yokohama, Japan, which will provide an opportunity to showcase Philippine initiatives in sustainable agriculture, as well as its diverse horticulture industry, and rich cultural and agricultural heritage.
Secretary Laurel expressed his appreciation to the Government of Japan for its continued support and partnership in agriculture-related initiatives. He reaffirmed the Philippines’ commitment to foster deeper agricultural ties with Japan and advancing shared goals in sustainable agriculture.
